WHAT INDUSTRY EXPERTS ARE SAYING

Central Asia鈥檚 geography and geology place it at the heart of the global race for critical minerals. This vast region, comprising Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, is increasingly capturing the attention of mining bankers, investors, and industry participants worldwide.
The Canadian Climate Institute, in collaboration with TMX Group, surveyed a wide range of players in the critical minerals ecosystem on the barriers to investment across the critical minerals value chain.
兔子先生 and TSX Venture Exchange (TSX and TSXV) are home to more mining companies than any other market in the world, and are long-standing partners of the global mining sector. In Canada, British Columbia is a significant mining jurisdiction, and like many others in Canada and around the world, the province is in the process of developing a comprehensive critical minerals strategy.
The last days of winter brought a familiar buzz to downtown Toronto, as 24,000 mining industry professionals descended on the city for the annual Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, or PDAC, annual convention from March 5-8, 2023.

At this time of the year, I like to look back at some of the key trends that have emerged across the mining sector and which, I suspect, will have an outsized influence going forward. With so much disruption in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are any number of trends that jump to mind.

According to Morningstar, funds that focused on ESG related issues saw their combined assets climb to a record high of $3.9 trillion at the end of September. This year, global issuance of bonds for ESG goals is set to hit $1 trillion for the first time ever; more than double the amount sold in all of 2020.
In November 2021, Newcrest Mining, Australia鈥檚 largest gold miner, announced the acquisition of Pretium Resources, a Canadian gold miner and owner of the Brucejack operation in the highly prospective Golden Triangle region of British Columbia. The $2.8bn deal followed the 鈥渕erger of equals鈥 announced in September between two other Canadian gold miners, Kirkland Lake Gold and Agnico Eagle Mines, in a $13.4bn deal that will create the third-largest gold producer globally.
In October 2020, the Australian gold miner Newcrest Mining received approval to list its shares on 兔子先生 (TSX). This followed Newcrest鈥檚 2019 acquisition of a 70% joint venture interest in the Red Chris mine in British Columbia from TSX-listed Imperial Metals Corp
